What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back I would say to take more courses in a cheaper community college and then transfer to Thomas Edison. I would also tell mself to work more and save more, which is easier said then done. The simple fact is that college is costly and needs to be saved up for. But it is worth it, I am learning a lot and know it will ultimatley lead me to a great career.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The flexibility of my schedule. I have taken only online courses and I have been able to travel during my courses, taking a road trip to California and living in MA over the summer besides working a full time job. I tell them how glad I am that I can work, school, and remain competent at all three so that I don't have to scarifice family life, financial responsiblity and quality of education during this time.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I attended TESC as a distance learning student. It was military spouse. It allowed me to transfer previous credits earned at other schools. I wish there was more financial aid available. I was only able to receive federal assistance as everything was reserved for NJ state residents. As military spouse I was allowed resident tuition but was not able to receive any grants or scholarships for residents. They also do not give awards at graduation and graduation fees are required whether you travel for the ceremony in NJ or not. I would love to receive the gown I paid for.

What's unique about your campus?
I consider their online classroom, Blackboard, to be one the highlights they offer. It's easy to navigate, always open and full of information, including access to online libraries, magazine clippings and jounal exerpts from Harvard, Yale, and other prestegious universities. I would certainly say that the affordability combined with the quality of education are the selling points and what I really appreciate about Thomas Edison State College.
