What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back in time and talk to my high school senior self, I'd try to mentally prepare myself for the challenges ahead. I would give myself the advice to sign up for as many clubs or outside activities as I could. I never realized how big college could be when you don't know anyone there. I, sadly, wasn't able to afford to live in a dorm, therefore I haven't had the chance to get close to my peers. Therefore, I'd advise my younger self to begin signing up for clubs in order to meet new people and make some friends. I would also advise myself to start putting aside a food budget now because I certainly had no idea how going out to eat would add up! I had never had to worry about my own expenses before I started college and I wish it was something I would have taken into consdieration. Other than that, I would like to mentally prepare myself for the workload to come; I'd had homework before, but never like this! I think with this advise, I would've been better prepared for college.

What's unique about your campus?
I consider the faculty the best thing about my school. Most of the professors that I have had in my first year of college have been really great! They seem to really care about the students and if we understand the material that is being taught to us.

Describe the students at your school.
It is hard to describe my classmates because we have a very diverse campus. Many of my classmates are from overseas or are of ethnic minorities. I think that our diversity is one of the greatest strengths of the Denver campus. Most of the students are very hard working and very focused on their career goals. Also, many of the students work either part time or full time while they are attending school. I think this fact causes the majority of the students to take their classes very seriously. We understand the value of the money we spend on tuition.

What kind of person should attend this school?
The kind of person attending this school should be friendly and eager to learn. However, they should not be concerned about their grades per say, but more about the experiance of being in college and being in the heart of Denver. They should also get connected with their fellow students as well as get connected with the city life around them because that's half the experiance. Between the hustle and bustle of Denver and the college itself, anyone thinking of attending this school should be prepared for hard work and stress but know how to deal with that stress.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about my school is there are three campuses at one location. THe buildings are sometimes shared and sometimes the school will allow other schools to filll the roll also. This is bad because the CC and the State College pay less then us for tuition. So we fill that we are getting the short end of the stick. On the other hand with the three schools there is so much diversity and people. It is its own community and the area is awsome.

The University of Colorado College of Nursing has one of the top ranked nursing programs in the nation. The University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) is also nationally ranked and is a magnet hospital, which is considered the Nobel Peace Prize for hospitals.
In addition, since it is a state school, the tuition is much less than the other top ranked school in the area, Regis University.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Before I came to this school I would of liked to have known the tuition costs of some of their Fine Art majors in advance, specifically their Digital Animation Program throughout a four year span. By knowing this I would have planned on looking at other more affordable majors that suit my interests before deciding on the Digital Animation major.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I think the stereotype is that of an inner city, less than scholastically capable individual. This is not at all true. Our student population is brilliant and diverse, from all backgrounds and social groups. Our school is welcoming and accepting with an awesome community orientation.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Attending UCD is quite a unique college experience. It does not have a traditional campus, but is built to be part of the city of Denver as opposed to its' own entity. It also doesn't quite run like a traditional college as many things are unconventional compared to other universities. I love this fact about UCD, however many administrative needs such as registration are a hassle and left for the student to figure out for themselves as communication between the school and student about such things can be lacking at best. UCD in whole is pretty unknown even with the great medical, science, and music program (I am a Recording Arts Major). Being so, it is nice because there is no massive amount of prestige from the school but you gain the same education as anywhere else without all of the pointless smugness of "I go to ________ (insert college here)".

What are the academics like at your school?
Though I have had 1 lecture class last semester and 1 this semester with around 90 total students, most my classes are relatively small and most my teachers know me by name and also remember me from my first semester. My major is Recording Arts, and UCD has amazing music recording studios with lots of access available to students. I currently have 9 classes (17 credit hours) and had 9 classes last semester as well. One of the nicer things is UCD offers classes for the college of arts and media students in the liberal arts that aren't as rigorous as other classes so it allows me to focus on what I want to learn and gain a higher education in all other subjects without getting killed by them.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
My favorite thing about UCD is the close location to Downtown Denver. Denver has a lot of local venues for music, clubs, restaurants, and shops within walking distance and I often find myself wandering the streets of Denver. There are no huge fraternities or sororities here, which in my personal view I like because I feel that the college experience is one closer to being a part of life after college instead of a continuation of high school. There are not a ton of school sponsored events, though President Obama came for a speech recently that was a huge event that all students and faculty were eligible for free tickets too.

When you step off campus what do you see?
There is a lot in Denver, and all of it is located pretty close to Denver. When you are off-campus, you can visit the Pepsi Center which home to the Nuggets and Avalanche sports teams. There are also concerts and events there. If you walk right across the street, there is the Buell Theatre, where many Broadway musicals and plays are performed. This area is also home to the Denver Center of Performing Arts. Nearby, there is also Six Flags, Elitch Gardens with roller coasters. If you continue down the street past the dorms, Mile High Stadium where the Broncos play is right there. There are a lot of places off campus that are easily recognizable. There are also several fantastic local diners across the street. The most popular study spot is The Market, a sandwich shop that also sells local honey, spices, meat, cakes, and coffee. There are a lot of things to see and do even when you are off campus.

Why did you decide to go to this school?
I decided to attend the University of Colorado Denver because of the location and diversity, but also because I looked into the academics and liked the courses they had to offer. My first priority was academics, so I searched for a college that not only had the major I was interested in and a separate medical campus. After that, I decided that I would still like to live in Colorado, being a native to this state. I love skiing, and I wanted a school that was in the city and easy to navigate but also close to the mountains. There is also so much diversity at the University of Colorado Denver, that it was difficult to pass up the opportunity to expand my horizons.
