Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually, one Irlet Anderson Scholarship and one Charles L. Gittens Scholarship.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Must be African American.
  4. Must plan to enroll full time in two- or four-year institution.
  5. Must pursue a degree in any of the social sciences, including technology, forensic investigations, and other criminal investigative studies, to further a career in law enforcement or criminal justice.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a high school senior who will receive his/her diploma prior to the award announcement (before July).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S high school seniors who are African American and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must pursue a degree full time in any of the social sciences, including technology, forensic investigations, and other criminal investigative studies, to further a career in law enforcement or criminal justice.

Application requirements for the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives National Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Each applicant must be accepted to an accredited academic institution (proof of acceptance will be required). Applicants must demonstrate financial need. All applicants will be evaluated by a national screening panel who will review all submitted applications and select the recipient. Local chapters will screen for local award selections.

Award Amount: The Irlet Anderson Scholarship recipient will receive $2,500 annually, non-renewable. The Charles Fonseca Scholarship recipient will receive $2,000 annually, non-renewable. The Bernard and Sylvia Davis Thompson Scholarship recipient will receive $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) website. Interested applicants may also contact a local National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) chapter or the national chapter for more information and an application. If there is not a chapter in the student's area, he/she may write to the national office and request an application. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a one-page essay stating his/her career goals and interests and reasons why he/she should receive the award, a current transcript, two letters of recommendation (one which must be from a school official), and a recent photograph.Applications must be postmarked by the deadline.
