In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Must demonstrate academic achievement.
  3. Must be committed to a career related to the environment.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a matriculated sophomore- or junior-level student at a two-year or four-year institution of higher education, pursuing a bachelor's or associate's degree during the upcoming academic year. "Sophomore" is defined, for purposes of this award, as a student who intends at least two more years of full-time undergraduate study beginning in the fall; "junior" is defined, for purposes of this award, as a student who intends at least one more year of full-time undergraduate study beginning in the fall.
  6. Must enroll full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. college sophomores and juniors who demonstrate academic achievement are eligible for this award. Students must be majoring in a field related to the environment.

Additional Information: All complete and eligible nominations are reviewed by an independent selection committee. Scholars are selected on the basis of the following: demonstrated commitment to environmental or natural resource issues (commitment is demonstrated through substantial contributions to and participation in campus activities, research, tribal involvement, community or public service); course of study and proposed career likely to lead to position where nominee can make significant contributions to the shaping of environmental issues, whether through scientific advances, public or political service, or community action; and leadership, character, desire to make a difference, general well-roundedness.

Award Amount: Scholarship recipients will receive the following: a scholarship of $5,000 for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses; and access to a network of environmental policy professionals through the Udall Alumni listserv. Scholarships are non-renewable; students may apply for funding in both their sophomore and junior years. Honorable Mentions may join the alumni listserv.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
