Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two or more awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least one full year of academic study.
  3. Must major in journalism.
  4. Must plan to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.
  5. Must be a resident of Los Angeles, Orange, or Ventura county.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Additional Information: Each year, The Society of Professional Journalists Los Angeles awards scholarships to students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. This award honors the late Helen Johnson, a producer of “Channel 4 News Conference” and an associate producer of “Meet the Press.”

Award Amount: $500 to $1,000 annually, renewable for up to an additional two years if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,250.
