In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at the time of application.
  2. Must be a resident of Los Angeles, Orange, or Ventura county in California.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must plan to pursue a career in journalism.

Application requirements for the Bill Farr Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Proof of enrollment
Additional Information: Each year, The Society of Professional Journalists Los Angeles awards scholarships to students interested in pursuing careers in journalism.

Award Amount: $500 to $1,000 annually, renewable for up to an additional two years if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,250.
