Number of Awards & Eligibility: 10 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must have a bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field (mathematics, engineering, or physics) and plan to pursue a master's degree in computer science with an emphasis in information assurance.
  5. Must plan to attend the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
  6. Must have a bachelor's degree prior to enrollment in the program.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for students who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and are pursuing a master's degree in computer science with an emphasis in information assurance at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.

Additional Information: The selection committee is most interested in applications with aptitude, but may have little or no computer science background, and the desire to work for the Federal Government in an Information Assurance related position. Aptitude will be based on the entire package submitted by the applicant. Qualified applicants must also meet the following requirements: not be employed by the U.S. armed forces at time of application, meet criteria for federal employment, and be able to obtain a security clearance. After completion of the SFS program, students must seek full-time, paid civilian positions with the federal government where they will work for a minimum of two full years. If the student does not fulfill the service agreement, he/she must repay a prorated amount equivalent to the length of the period not served. For example, if the student received funds for two years and serves for one-and-a-half years, he/she must repay 25 percent of the funds received.

Award Amount: The scholarship program consists of the following: free tuition at NPS for the two-year master's degree program (worth approximately $75,000); a salary of approximately $32,000 per year while enrolled in the program; and placement in a summer internship program.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $75,000.
