Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  4. Must be enrolled in his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year of college.
  5. Must be enrolled full time.
  6. Must seek a bachelor's degree in elementary or secondary education.
  7. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to Vermont undergraduate students who are seeking a bachelor's degree in elementary or secondary education. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship was established in memory of Mrs. Alicia Shanks to assist college students who have demonstrated the capacity to become passionate and dedicated teachers. Please note: This scholarship is funded by an endowment subject to laws restricting disbursements under certain investment yield scenarios; as a result, there can be no guarantee of a scholarship award for the upcoming academic year. Selection is based on application documents and academic achievement. There are approximately 25 applicants for this award each year.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.
