Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be majoring in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics or business administration (with a specific focus on government or non-profit management).
  3. Must belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau): Black or African American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or a Pacific Islander.
  4. Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  5. Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student.
  6. Must be a college junior, senior, or graduate student at time of award distribution.

Additional Information: The Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship is available for award to an upper-division undergraduate or graduate student of public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management). The purpose of the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship is to recognize outstanding performance by minority students preparing for careers in state and local government finance. This scholarship is funded by Siemens. The winner, if one is selected, will be invited to attend the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s (GFOA) annual conference in San Antonio, Texas in May, where the award will be presented. The GFOA will provide the winner a complimentary annual conference registration, transportation costs to San Antonio as well as hotel accommodations.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, non-renewable. Past winners of a scholarship program administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada are not eligible to apply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
