If your taking your general credits most classes are fairly large so unless you frequently participate in discussion the professor won't take the time to learn your name. Once you begin to take classes that are smaller most will take the time to get to know who you are and make an effort for you to get to know everyone else in the class as well. Most classes require class discussion as part of the grade, especially ones that are 30 or less people. The most unique class I've taken thus far at the University is the History of Rock and Roll, I learned so many interesting facts about music in general (not just rock) from the roots all the way to today and just how all the transitions happened. My major is Mass Communications and I love it! It's one of the highly accredited programs here and the students in the department are extremely hardworking and fun to be around!
